AED/CPR (Use of Defibrillator) Training Meath
A cardiac arrest can happen anywhere: at home, at work or in a public place. When the heart stops pumping, blood no longer circulates as it should. Without immediate help, the person's chances of survival fall quickly.
Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) helps keep blood flowing to the brain and other vital organs while emergency help is on the way. Starting CPR promptly can double a person's chances of surviving a cardiac arrest.
Learning CPR helps people recognise an emergency and understand what to do next. Practising the skills builds confidence, reduce hesitation and make it easier to act in a stressful situation.
Key actions include:
• Recognising that someone is unresponsive and not breathing normally. Occasional gasps are not normal breathing.
• Calling 112 or 999, using speakerphone and following the call taker's instructions.
• Starting chest compressions promptly.
• Asking someone to bring an automated external defibrillator (AED) and following its voice prompts.
An AED analyses the heart's rhythm and will only advise a shock when one is needed. Anyone can use one by following its instructions.
CPR is a skill for everyone, not just healthcare professionals. The person who needs your help could be a colleague, family member or stranger.
Regular practice and refresher training help maintain these skills. Knowing what to do could make a difference when every second counts.
