No matter what form of networking you do and you should do them all until you find what works best for you and your business, remember it all comes back to how you approach the person and the more personal the better.

Networking Online

You can find new business using online tools such as tender services , LinkedIn,  and other social media.

Networking by Phone

Telephone marketing can be quite effective and depending on how many people / businesses you are trying to reach it can be something you can manage yourself.

You can also use third party cold calling companies who can do not only the call but also the research, however if you do the research yourself you will save some money and you can be sure they are contacting the relevant people.

Telephone Networking Tips
•    Get the name of the person you want to contact (look on online first)
•    Prepare an introduction
•    Have something to offer that is free
•    Do not have sell
•    Listen to the customers need
•    Find out as much as you can during the call
•    REMEMBER! Do not waste your time with anyone but a decision maker

BEWARE: Check the telephone preference service before you call, you should not be calling people or companies registered here or you could face legal action.

Networking Face to Face

Typically, this is can using breakfast networking, professional events and even clubs and associations.
Remember event networking is not just turning up someone and hoping for the best.  It is about choosing the right place to be then being prepared and finally trying to engage with the correct people – not every person will lead to business that day.

Face to Face Networking Tips
•    Research the people you know who are at the event.
•    Ask a organiser for a list of attendees
•    Have plenty of USPs for your business
•    Introduce yourself and where possible your business
•    Offer free advice and information
•    Do not push too hard, no hard sell
